EMMA Board Members Marc Goddard and Paul Reed recently attended the Sport England offices in London to hold further talks on the formal recognition of Mixed Martial Arts in England.
In a welcoming, informative & productive meeting and after a detailed presentation of the EMMAA’s achievements to date, the Sport England representatives recognised the hard work, passion and progress of the EMMAA. As a result, we are proud and happy to announce that the EMMAA is now moving to the Sport England pre-application stage. This is a significant achievement in the journey of the EMMAA and represents due recognition of the hard work already being undertaken by all involved in the association.
Vice President of EMMAA Paul Reed said: “We spent a very productive meeting in talks about what we are doing now plus our medium and long term goals. Our strategy was clear that our ultimate intention is to make the sport of MMA a safer place to develop within, plus adding real value to our members and their communities through various educational platforms. The free support of our volunteer professionals across all areas of coaching, rules and regulation, competitive standards, performance, safety and health etc, and of course by meeting the strict criteria of Sport England.”
President and EMMAA founder Marc Goddard said: “I cannot underestimate the significance and importance of having a face to face meeting with Sport England, and I would like to once again formally extend my thanks to both Richard Clarkson and Kathy O’Neil for allowing us to do so. The formal recognition process is lengthy, with many significant points to cross, achieve, and overcome. However, the support of our members and the additional recruitment of many more to come along with the board’s commitment, drive, and vision shall see us complete this process. This is my pledge to this sport.”
